      Hi.

I got PM to help me organize and mantain my huge archviz library. But P.M ig going sooo slow to open and mostly to simple change folder (like beds or couches) Every folder has like 300 or 400 blocks.

My organization is like: One folder for each block with jpeg thumb and max (folder, max and thumb with same name) and textures inside this folder.

      So, its like:

      -Beds
      — Bed 01
      —–Bed 01.max
      —–Bed 01.jpg
      —–Texture 01.jpg
      —–Texture 02.jpg
      — Bed 02
      —–Bed 02.max
      —- etc.

No matter how many folders are inside. Its always slow to change the folder.

      I already tried:
      1. Uninstall and reinstall clean PM

      2. Uncheck filters to leave only .max and proxy to identify the folder

      3. Convert my furniture folder from catalog

      4. Remove some folders to see if there one of this is overloaded

My dream is to PM dont even see .MAX file, just see thumbnail with same name and identify for me .max files that doesn´t have thumb so I can fix it.

Is there anything that I can try? database, convert something…

      Cheers,

    Plugin version: 3.23.34
    3ds Max version: 2022
    Renderer: Corona

      Hello
Please check if you can navigate these directories fast using Windows Explorer
Write a video to understanding a level of problem
Generate the support request. You can find this option in the main 3ds max menu “Project Manager” ==>> Create Support Request.

      Thanks for your feedback.

Yes, in explorer its all fine. Actually, I have XYplorer to see thumbnails too. Windows explorer and XYplorer its all fine, the same.

Should I record the video and post here or in “Support request”?

      Thanks

PS. Some customers reported that Windows 10 with updates KB5027215 or KB5028166 might case such problems.

      Check and uninstall these updates

XYplorer also might cause this problem.

Project Manager uses some system capabilities and XYplorer might conflict with the plugin.

When did this problem occur first?

I cant remember. Its been a while. Should I test uninstall XYplorer to test? Is there something that I can disable to fix?

First, write a video to understand the level of the problem and generate the support request. Post the video here or send the link to support@3d-kstudio.com

I uploaded the video to a private link: https://youtu.be/wZtSh05gi4o

      You´ll sse:

      1. I mananged my folder in windows explorer (no thumbnails)
      2. I mananged my folder in XYplorer (to see thumbnails)
      3. I mananged folder in Kstudio. I removed last week other folders to fast up a little bit. Note how slow is to change folder.
      4. I come back to XY and navigate to same folders to compare.

Sorry for no audio, my mic is unpluggled and english is not my native language.

It’s definitely not the normal speed of working and XYplorer might cause such behaviour.
Please try to uninstall/or disable it and write if this helped.

Don’t forget to restart Windows after disabling XYplorer

      • I tried remove XYplorer and a bunch of softwares that Im not using anymore.
      • Clean registry with CCleaner
      • Update windows
      • Restart
      • Clean again, remove all programs from icon tray, restart process (windows update and CCleaner)

After all tests, PM still slow with mananging folders.

My guess: It´s trying to see thumbnail from a .max file that already has a JPG with same name. Is there a way to disable it? Always that a find a .max without thumb, I manually rename to match.

I tried to not pass 500 folders with assets in a single folder. Bu problem occurs with any amount of folders…

Is there some config in database, SQL or something that I cant understand to try?

Drive D as I understand is a mapped drive?
As I see it so slow if a directory contains a lot of subdirectories and the option shows files in subfolders is on.
This is the main reason that it shows files slowly.

But since version 3.23 Project Manager allows caching assets, so after caching, files will be shown a lot faster.
The last version (3.23.40) improved some changes for caching, so download and install the latest version and turn on caching (by default it is on, so just check)
Note that caching might take a lot of time depending on the number of used directories.

PS. To faster caching keep 3ds max opened at night or weekend.
Usually, a few hours should be enough to cache almost all assets.

      Hi Kramer,

Drive D is a local drive (8TB Seagate IronWolf). Exactly to avoid lan limitations. I have a little server and use Synctrazor to make it all synced (just backup) when I update something in my library.

      • Yes. That a LOT of subdirectories. I already tried to make all assets in one folder, textures in another. But became a mess very fast. If I delete a .max file, I cant know what is the texture related. If I move some .max, I need to find textures… Well, I think this was the best solution for me so far. I agree this probably make it slow, but I cant found better solution yet.
      • I just turn thumbnails on on last folder, before assets, with option “Show One Level” on, to avoid read many folders.

I updated to 3.23.40, “Allow” was already ticked. Do I need to click something? Like “Update cache” or cache directories? Or just leave it on?

One question: I just add my main folder do models tab. Do I need to convert to catalog? Leave it like directory or doen´t matter?

So you place all files separately but want to see them in one directory.

No. It will work without any advanced settings.

Currently, I’m testing a configuration like yours (but on Windows 10) and it works slowly even with caching.
Later I’ll try again on Windows 11.

Do I need to convert to catalog? Leave it like directory or doen´t matter?

      No matter. As you wish
