It would be great if there was an option to choose if the name for the thumbnail has two extensions or not. I would like to be able to just have a preview image with the exact name of the file and the same for the material previews. At the moment I have to batch rename everything after I have processed it.
So instead of object.max.jpg it would just be object.jpg.

The reason why I use these names.
The directory can contain the texture, whose name matches the file name.
To save an existing file, I use the name for preview such as “scene name + extension + jpeg”.
Sorry, but I do not see the important reasons for the use of thumbs in this form, as you suggest.
